I am one of those people this year that on the first cool day, headed out to the farmers market and loaded up the SUV with mums and pumpkins. I got in gear setting the mums out and dutifully watered them everyday. Then the heat returned. My poor little mums just withered and died and the flies came for the pumpkins. Total failure on my part…I know better but those beautiful first Fall colors get me every time.
Now that Fall has really arrived, I went back to the market for replacements and created a Fall front porch. At Michael’s I got four leaf garlands from Michael’s to put in the empty space above the front door. The cup hooks were already there that hold Christmas garland that I hang for the holidays, so it was easy to hang up. A wreath with blue hydrangeas adds color to the front door.
Farmhouse stools that I recycled (here) were dragged out to give height to the mums. I snuck in a little of my modern farmhouse style…even though our homes exterior is super traditional. Sadly, my dream of living in a farmhouse ( with a barn full of animals) will probably always be just a dream.
I bought large orange pumpkins from the market to put in the urns, but from the street they were not noticeable. So I painted them white and added black and copper tape lines for contrast. The top of the urn was too big for the pumpkins, so I used decorated vine wreaths to create a “seat” for them to sit on. Now, the pumpkins really do stand out. I love this little dog statue…he is standing guard out here.
