Migrant Workers Rally in Seoul for Better Working Conditions and Labor Rights

SEOUL, May 1 (Korea Bizwire)Foreign worker organizations, including the Migrant Trade Union and the Migrant Workers’ Equality Alliance, protested in Seoul on April 30, one day before Labor Day, to demand better working conditions.

They chanted “guarantee freedom of movement at workplaces” and staged a chain performance to attract attention.

They called for the government to prohibit forced labor and abide by International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 29.

The protesters highlighted the government’s failure to address exploitation and discrimination, including poor wages and working conditions, industrial accidents, and environmental hazards.

They emphasized that migrant workers are entitled to the same rights as any other worker and marched to the Samgakji Station to deliver a letter of protest to the presidential office.

Overall, the protests aimed to draw attention to the exploitation and discrimination faced by migrant workers in South Korea and to call for improvements in working conditions and the protection of workers’ rights.
